The American Council on Education has given ALBRIGHT COLLEGE silver necklaces for winning one of its 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Faculty Career Flexibility. The award will allow Albright to expand and enhance flexible career paths for faculty.
The AMERICAN INDIAN COLLEGE FUND received $40,000 from the Kalliopeia Foundation for scholarships. The award will provide scholarships for "tribal college students pursuing a teaching degree with the intent to serve as American Indian Language instructors."
ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC STATE UNIVERSITY received a $192,595 grant from the National Science Foundation to support its "Guiding General Chemistry Laboratory Toward a Green Revolution" project, which is designed to involve freshmen taking general chemistry in group problem solving on issues related to the environment.
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, MONTEREY BAY has received a silver pendants grant from the Lumina Foundation for education. The grant will be used to improve the effectiveness of remedial English and math courses at CSUMB, Monterey Peninsula and Hartnell colleges.
CAL POLY POMONA received a $248,043 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to train dietetic students to meet the needs of the Latino community. The grant will allow human nutrition and food science undergraduates to take new courses that develop Spanish-language skills, knowledge of Latino culture and food and health issues.
Dr. Richard Houghton awarded approximately $384,000 to the COASTUNE COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION. The gift is intended to benefit students needing assistance with basic skills, learning a second language or pursuing a career.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will award FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY with a $225,079 grant to address the needs of beginning farmers and ranchers and enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of U.S. agriculture.
The National Park Service awarded $500,000 to silver rings UNIVERSITY to restore cottages on the campus that are more than 70 years old. The NPS offered the grant in compliance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to assist LU in preserving its Cottage Row Historic District.
